Media Minded Project, in partnership with Masterpiece Academy, offers a growing library of flexible, research‑driven online courses and professional learning that helps educators integrate media and AI literacy into everyday instruction. Our professional development is practical, discipline‑rooted, and designed for immediate classroom use. At the center of our offerings is our flagship course, Media Literacy Across the Content Areas, available in both asynchronous and synchronous hybrid formats to equip educators with skills and pedagogy to embed media literacy in any subject with clarity and confidence. Description: Participants will develop key media literacy skills such as accessing, analyzing, evaluating, creating, and publishing media messages and apply these concepts to design curricular resources that integrate seamlessly into their instructional practice. By the end of this professional development, participants will be equipped to embed media literacy pedagogy into their teaching and implement content‑area lessons at the intersection of media literacy and their curriculum.
Format: Available in both fully asynchronous and hybrid synchronous formats.
Duration:
- Asynchronous: 10 self‑paced modules
- Hybrid Synchronous: 5 weeks of synchronous or in‑person learning blended with digital assignments
Intended Audience: K–12 teachers, K–12 instructional leaders, university faculty, professionals across sectors
Learning Outcomes:
- Identify and apply core media and AI literacy concepts within the context of your discipline’s ways of thinking, reading, and making meaning.
- Analyze and evaluate media messages using discipline‑specific lenses.
- Design and adapt classroom activities that embed media literacy skills into existing units, lessons, and instructional routines.
- Support students in creating and communicating with media in ways that reflect authentic disciplinary practices.
- Integrate practical, ready‑to‑use strategies that help students navigate misinformation, multimodal texts, and AI‑generated content.

PD Hours: 35 PD hours toward K–12 recertification. If you are not in a K–12 setting, we are happy to collaborate with your organization to ensure your participation counts toward your professional learning or continuing education requirements.

Description: This course equips educators with a clear, practical understanding of artificial intelligence and its role in teaching and learning. Participants will explore what AI is, how to craft effective prompts, and how to critically evaluate AI‑generated output for accuracy, bias, and usefulness. The course also addresses essential topics such as data privacy, hallucinations, and responsible use of AI with students. Through hands‑on practice and reflection, educators will learn how to use AI to enhance productivity, streamline workflow, and make informed decisions about when AI is an effective tool and when it isn’t.
